I am a first year Literary Journalism major [and currently on the waiting list for the Digital Arts minor] at UCIrvine, CA. It seems we always have to establish that in the college setting–”Oh, what major are you?”–as if one’s major tells us more about that person. No doubt, my major lists my interests: writing non-fiction and digital art. But for the details!
I have an older brother who is majoring in Graphic Design. Being the little, discipled [and leech-like] sister, I stepped into the footprints that my brother left on the track, and here we are now–I find some sort of blissful joy in designing things for others or for myself, whether it’s for an event, some background slides, print items, messing around with photos, or for blogs. My brother was my first inspiration in design, then the guys at [formerly] Asterik Studio (now Invisible Creature), and various other modern, hip designers (YASLY, Must Warn Others, Pankra Studio, Iso50, etc.)… (If you’re familiar with some of them, you could see a connection.) Besides graphic design, I also enjoy illustrations, and am inspired by Laura Park, Susie Ghahremani and Jeana Sohn, to name a basic few. Hm…but one supernatural thing that inspires me deeply is the muse that nature [creation] breathes off. Just the fact that God is the Creator of all things good motivates me, somehow. I wouldn’t be able to pinpoint the exactness of that inspiration, but, it’s there. :]
